A2Z Automation has successfully supplied, installed, and commissioned battery monitoring systems across more than 22,000 batteries for MTN Group South Africa. Each intelligent sensor continuously monitors individual battery voltage, temperature, and internal resistance, while calculating State of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SOH) in real time. Advanced alarm management provides instant notification on critical threshold conditions, with all operational data securely logged for analysis and reporting. The complete solution was seamlessly integrated into the Tridium BMS platform, delivering centralized monitoring, enhanced reliability, and improved preventative maintenance capabilities

We also provide advanced hydrogen detection solutions for lithium battery installations, enabling early warning and rapid alarming of potential thermal runaway or off-gassing events. Our systems deliver continuous real-time monitoring to enhance safety, protect critical infrastructure, and support proactive risk mitigation in high-availability environments such as data centres, telecommunications facilities, and industrial applications.

Temperature

  • Negative pole for true internal temperature
  • Range: -20°C ~ 85°C (±0.5°C)

Voltage

  • 12V Cells, range: 7.5 ~ 15.6 (±0.2%)
  • 6V Cells, range: 3.9 ~ 7.8 (±0.2%)
  • 2V Cells, range: 1.6 ~ 2.6 (±0.2%)
  • String Voltage up to 800 Vdc

Internal Resistance

  • Measurements during float state
  • Range: 0.1mΩ ~ 100mΩ

State Of Charge (SOC)

  • Remaining capacity displayed as % based on battery characteristics and measured parameters

State Of Health (SOH)

  • By tracking long term changes, algorithms calculate the consumed and remaining lifetime of each cell

Visual Status

  • Pulsing red = Abnormal / Alarm state
  • Pulsing green = Normal / Healthy state
  1. Over or under cell voltage, temperature or internal resistance set point.
  2. Under low SOC set point.
  3. Cell disconnected (Communication Failure).

Current

  • Status: Charging, Discharging, Float charge, At rest
  • Range: -1000A ~ 1000A

BMS Interface

  • RS485 port with Modbus RTU protocol
